Browns betting on new talent: Isaiah Bond joins Cleveland after sexual assault case dismissed, set to pair with Shedeur Sanders
Former Texas wide receiver Isaiah Bond has officially signed with the Cleveland Browns, days after a grand jury in Collin County, Texas dismissed a sexual assault case against him. The move marks a pivotal moment in Bond's journey - clearing his legal name and opening the door to resuming his promising NFL career.
According to District Attorney Greg Willis, the legal case that cast a shadow over Bond’s professional future ended after a grand jury returned a “no bill” — meaning there was not enough evidence to pursue criminal charges.
“After reviewing all the evidence presented, a Collin County grand jury has ruled a ‘no bill’ on the sexual assault allegations involving Isaiah Bond, meaning no charges will be filed. This effectively ends the criminal proceedings in this matter,” Willis confirmed in an official statement Thursday.
Bond rebuilds, teams up with Shedeur Sanders in Cleveland
In a statement following the announcement, Bond expressed gratitude for the legal outcome and his excitement about starting fresh in the NFL—especially with rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who is also part of the Browns’ youth-focused rebuild.
“Football has been my passion since I was six years old, and playing at this level is a blessing I will never take for granted. I understand that playing in the NFL is a privilege, and I am grateful every day for fulfilling my childhood dream,” Bond said.
The Browns have yet to make an official team announcement, but sources close to the organization said Bond’s signing is part of a broader roster rebuilding strategy that focuses on young, high-potential athletes for the 2025 season.
Bond resolves charges, maintains innocence
Bond also publicly acknowledged the legal situation, reiterating his innocence and commitment to development as both a player and a person:
“I am aware that there are questions and reports about the recent allegations. I am grateful for the prosecutors and the court’s decision not to pursue the charges. I will learn from this experience as I grow in knowledge, character and faith.”
"At the advice of my attorney, I will not discuss the details of this case, but I want to make it clear: From the beginning, I have denied these allegations and maintained my innocence. I stand firm on that today."
"I am determined to prove the Browns organization and everyone who believed in me right for the trust they placed in me."
Isaiah Bond's college career stats at a glance
- 2024 season (Texas): 34 receptions, 540 yards, 5 touchdowns
- 2022–2023 season (Alabama): 65 receptions, 888 yards, 5 touchdowns
Bond's speed, route-running and explosiveness make him a potential breakout weapon for Sanders, who is expected to take over as the Browns' quarterback of the future.
